DOSname is a small program that returns the DOS name (8.3 filename) from a specified path or file.
I've been using this for ages, never came round to actually put it online, but there we are. If you occasionally need to get the short form (8.3 filename) from of a path or filename, this tool comes to help.
Examples:
Long file name Short file name Long folder name Short folder name test_file.txt TEST_F~1.TXT c:\program files c:\PROGRA~1
test_file_nr2.txt TEST_F~2.TXT c:\documents and settings c:\DOCUME~1
test file nr2.txt TESTFI~1.TXT
test file nr3.txt TESTFI~2.TXT
Options/Features
Returns the DOS form (8.3 filename) from a specified path or file
User friendly Select Dir and Select File buttons to browse to your file or folder
